SWR have released the following statement regarding the footbridge…
Railway improvement – Footbridge at Sway Station
The pedestrian footbridge, that provides access between Platforms 1 and 2, will undergo essential refurbishment works from August to December. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Work will take place as follows:

Sway Station 26 August – 12 September 2025 | Midweeks Days 08:00-18:00 + Mid-weeknights 22:00-06:00 | As part of the upcoming main works to the station footbridge, site welfare units will be mobilised within the station car park. Noisy work is expected. The bridge will be demolished, removed, and replaced during the line closure, using a road rail vehicle crane at Sway station. Due to the nature of the work and the tools we use, some disturbance will be unavoidable. You may also hear train horns being sounded; this is because we need to alert our teams on track, of all train movements in the area. We’re sorry for any disturbance and inconvenience our work may cause. All teams working on site are briefed on working responsibly in the local community and making every effort to keep noise levels to a minimum whenever possible.
We’re obliged to work, whenever possible, at times that cause the least disruption to train services. Unfortunately, this means carrying out a lot of our improvements during the night and at weekends.
Coordinating with the local authority, we’ll update the local community as the work progresses. We plan to reopen the footbridge in October and will keep you updated if anything changes.
